Preah Khan

Preah Khan was built by King Jayavarman VII. It was built in 1191 and was dedicated to Bodhisattva Lokeshvara. Its name means “Sacred Sword”. The temple was also built in order to honor his father. While another huge temple, Ta Prohm was to honor his mother.

It is a huge and highly decorative monastic complex full of carvings and passages. The best part of the temple complex is that it is less crowded and you may admire the works of Khmer artists with time in hand and also have a wonderful opportunity for photography. It was used by Buddhist monks as a monastery and an educational institution.
